Remembering Bill Joyce

We're sad to report that Bill Joyce, former President of the Trucking Association of New York, passed away on August 7, 2018, at the age of 68. He was a dear friend and colleague and will be missed by many.

A Message from John Andrews, President & CEO, Bestpass:

I was deeply saddened by the recent passing of Bill Joyce, an icon in the trucking industry, in New York state and nationally.

Bill’s career in the trucking industry spanned more than five decades, including leading the New York State Motor Truck Association, now the Trucking Association of New York, as chairman from 1994 to 1996 and as president from 1996 until his retirement in 2008.

Bill JoyceSimply put, Bill was a visionary. While president of the motor truck association, he formed Bestpass and was a fervent proponent of the idea in its early days. Before anyone else, he saw the need for better toll management to help the trucking industry, and, more importantly, he had great ideas about how to meet that need.

I was fortunate to work closely with him in the early days of Bestpass, when I was a software consultant, though at the time I didn’t realize the impact that his ideas would have on the trucking and tolling industries. As CEO, I’ve had the honor of taking his vision and scaling it. Today, Bestpass processes more than $2.4 million in toll every day for more than 1.2 million vehicles for carriers of all sizes, from owner-operators to most of the major fleets operating in the United States and Canada.

Bill’s legacy will live on in the company that Bestpass has become, and in the company that it will become as we continue to build on his foundation. All 75 of the people that work at Bestpass, as well as the more than 5,400 drivers and fleet operators that use our service, are so much better for having known him or from the benefit of his insight.

Please join me and the entire Bestpass team in remembering Bill Joyce.
