Acadia National Park in Maine
As we've mentioned previously, August is American Adventures Month! We hope that you're out there enjoying some time on the road away from the highways for a change - even if it's just for a few hours!
Acadia National Park in Maine is the first adventure we'd like to highlight this month. It's a bit out of the way, being at the extreme Northeast part of the country, but we think it's worth a visit if you're up that way. Bar Harbor, Maine, is a pretty little town located nearby the park. It's about three and a half hours away from Portland, Maine, heading North on I-95 (which, of course, is a Bestpass compatible road!). Once you've arrived in Bar Harbor, you'll want to park at one of the hotels in town offering oversized vehicle parking, and then it's best to get around town on a rented bike.
While you're in town, you can enjoy a free tour to see how local beers, wines and sodas are produced at Atlantic Brewing Company. They also offer free tastings from 10am to 5pm every day. If beer isn't your thing, you can head over to the Oceanarium & Lobster Hatchery where you can experience marine life close up! You can take a guided tour of a salt marsh and the Maine Lobster Museum where you can see mother and baby lobsters and the hatching process.
If eating lobster is more your thing, then check out Stewman's Lobster Pound for a traditional lobster bake. Wherever the road takes you, we hope you're taking time to look around and enjoy yourself in the spirit of American Adventures month!
